He never imagined that his eyes would be so attractive, nor did he realize that her words would come from a heart so cold.
The room fell silent, and all five senses were awakened by the unexpected intrusion into the quiet corner of the bar. His pulse quickened at the sudden attention, and his breathing became lighter as if the weight of it had just been lifted off.
“How… did you find me here?” He asked in a monotone voice, trying to suppress the shivers running down his spine.
The man’s voice was softer now, like a warm wind whispering through the trees. “I followed you,” he admitted slowly. “Your eyes are the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.”
There was a moment of tense silence before she chose her words carefully: “You have always been very good at reading people, even when no one else could tell.” It wasn’t that his reaction was unemotional, but something inside him caught fire like a flame in the wind. He felt an irrational need to defend it all.
“Enough,” he said sharply, turning away from her with a deliberate motion. “You’re not supposed to know anything about me.”
She stepped back, leaving him to his fate. The sound of heavy footsteps echoed through the hallway, and when she turned her attention back to him, her face was set like a cold iron. If there was anyone who could understand his world, it was her.
The moment he looked up into her eyes, she saw the truth in them: a deep, unshakable conviction that this was all for naught. She would see through any mask he wore, and if it cost him everything, then so be it.
The barista at the counter moved with practiced ease as she approached, her movements precise and deliberate. The coffee machine whirred in the background, the steam rising in clouds that seemed to hover indefinitely above their heads.
But it was all part of a game now, one she played without question, without love.
As she left the store, the familiar sting of regret followed her like a shadow. But this time, she knew exactly what she wanted: the chance to see him again, to say goodbye in person.
And if he had any idea what was coming next, he better prepare for it.
